Information on the Coronavirus
CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a new coronavirus that was first detected in China and which has now been detected in more than 100 locations internationally (as of this publication), including in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). On January 30, 2020, the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a “public health emergency of international concernexternal icon” (PHEIC). On January 31, 2020, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II declared a public health emergency (PHE) for the United States to aid the nation’s healthcare community in responding to COVID-19. On March 11, 2020 WHO publiclyexternal icon characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic.*
In the past two weeks, the number of cases of COVID-19 outside China has increased 13-fold, and the number of affected countries has tripled. There are now more than 118,000 cases in 114 countries and 4,291 people have lost their lives. Thousands more are fighting for their lives in hospitals. However, of the 118,000 cases reported globally in 114 countries, more than 90 percent of cases are in just four countries and two of those – China and the Republic of Korea - have significantly declining epidemics. 81 countries have not reported any cases, and 57 countries have reported 10 cases or less. **
How Can SERVPRO of Santa Clara Help You?
SERVPRO of Santa Clara cleaning specialists can perform proactive cleanup protocol services to those properties that have had no known positive cases of COVID-19. SERVPRO of Santa Clara would need each Customer to acknowledge that the proactive cleaning and disinfecting applies only to the current condition of the property and would not protect from potential future exposure from COVID-19 contagion if an infected person was to access the facility after the proactive cleaning was completed.
Proactive Cleaning Work Scope
For both residential and commercial areas, the CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting all high-touched areas and items on a routine basis. These surfaces include but are not limited to doors, knobs, windows, cabinets, tables, light switches, bathroom fixtures and knobs, phones, electronic devices, elevator buttons, handrails, books, toys, water fountains and faucets, etc. ***
SERVPRO of Santa Clara Proactive Cleaning Procedures
Our effective proactive cleaning procedure would entail the cleaning of all porous and non-porous surfaces and disinfecting of non-porous surfaces. Porous surfaces that are water-tolerant like fabrics and carpet can also be sanitized. We would finalize the services by cleaning and disinfecting all of the SERVPRO equipment and supplies used during the cleaning and disposing of all debris.
Following the recommendations of the CDC, SERVPRO of Santa Clara would proceed with the usage of a hospital-grade disinfectant with labeled effectiveness against similar virus organisms. SERVPRO’s proprietary disinfectant, SERVPROXIDE, fits this description and has many EPA-approved claims in Norovirus, Staphylococcus (MRSA), Human Immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), Hepatitis A, B & C, E. coli, Salmonella, Rotavirus, and Swine Flu (H1N1) to name a few. ****
